I had the privilege of photographing this amazing family over the weekend. Not only are they wonderful friends, they are selflessly serving as missionaries in Mexico at Casa De Luz. Their love and kindness helps those in need everyday and you can see it shining from them in photographs as well.

I fell in love with these two kiddos as soon as I met them! They are so special.

And my boys fell in love with this girl. Wouldn't you? Beauty, inside and out!

I love it when I get to shoot a session with close friends or clients who have become close friends! Everyone is relaxed and happy and no one minds that the kids stink in person...you can't smell them in pictures! (just kidding guys!) Anyway, I had a blast with these guys!

And do you know how hard it usually is to get two boys looking at the camera and smiling? One take people! ONE shot! They didn't even make me work for it!

And what a little flirt...winking at me. Who taught him this? Dad?

Then big brother told me about his girlfriend. These parents are in trouble I tell ya! These boys are going to be heart breakers!

And the best part...they're going to have a third boy in January! Whoo hoo! I can't wait to meet him!

I know I've said it before, but in case you missed it, I love what I do! I get to meet great people and I fall in love with their kids. I have the privilege of making wonderful memories for families and I am so thankful for the opportunity. I look forward to photographing families I've worked with before because I get to see how much everyone has grown. I get to see personalities emerge and little faces change. It makes me happy. Take the W family...I got to photograph each of these boys shortly after birth and now look at them!

Peace Like A River - Orange County Family Photographer

One of the many reasons I love my job, is that I have the opportunity to know people I may have never otherwise met. I am invited into their families if just for an evening to capture memories for them. What a gift it is to me. This is one such family.

You see, I have photographed this beautiful family before when they welcomed their second son into their family (remember?). And this time, they brought along some of their extended family.

Look how much Mr. Gavin has grown!
And I got to meet the newest member of their extended family! Isn't she perfect!
and this session was especially meaningful to this wonderful family, and to me. 20 years ago this family lost a beautiful daughter and sister, Suzanne, to Hodgkins disease. This beach is where she spent the last weeks of her life. It was a wonderful way to have her there with us.

All the more reason this image brings joy. The boys, hand in hand, on this special beach. What a blessing.

It's not often that we have freeezing tempertures in Orange County, but sandwiched between two weeks in the high seventies, was a night of hail and an early morning session in the freezing cold! Between the hail on the ground and looming clouds, we managed to get some great images of this amazing family! The girls having fun despite the frost bite (can you tell I'm a weather wimp?) Can't you just hear the giggles? and how absolutely adorable is this little guy! Oh my! Such the dapper little model. Love it!

Just a few days left in 2010! How did that happen?!?! I have been truly blessed this year. I have two wonderful boys, an amazing husband and the world's greatest clients! Thank you to all of you who have trusted me to capture images of your family. It's been an honor.

I wanted to give everyone a little peek into some new and exciting things that will be in store for Suzuki Photography and my clients next year!

New Products!

I am so excited about some of the newest products I have in store for you! Adorable little mini-books, beautiful brag books (grandma's LOVE them!), a new array of birth announcements and storyboards!

Referrals!

In January, I will be sending out referral cards to all of my current clients. If you love my work, pass the cards on to your family, friends and co-workers. Each new client who books a session using a referral card will get one free digital image AND the family that referred them will receive $25 off their next session fee! The best part, there is no limit to the number of people you can refer! If you refer three new clients, you will get $75 off your next session fee!

Model Calls!

I have some great new ideas I'd like to try out in 2011 and (since my boys and hubby run from my camera) I'll need some guinea pigs (and I mean that in the most positive way possible!) As a model, you'll receive a free session and a set number of images on high resolution disc. However, I will only be placing these model calls on my Facebook page, so, if you're not a fan...become one! Also, if you have friends and family who may be interested in being a test subject, why not request they become a fan (liker?) of Suzuki Photography!

Pricing

Lastly, my pricing structure will be changing in January 2011. However, if you book and pay for a session before Dec. 31, I will honor my current pricing for that session until the end of May 2011. So, if you know you'd like a spring family, newborn, first birthday or any other session before May, now is your chance to lock in the current pricing on your session fee and the image pricing!

The offer of current pricing applies to Gift Certificates too! So, if you know someone who would love some beautiful new pictures this holiday (or you'd like some for yourself ;) ) I will happily print gift certificates for any dollar amount and box them up for you to give this holiday season.

Lately, every time I pick up my camera, it rains. Or at least tries to. Saturday morning came...sunny, blue skies, not a cloud in sight until about an hour before my session with this beautiful family.

I have two boys. "Girly" isn't overflowing in my day to day life, but I got my fill this weekend! This little cupcake is surrounded my glitter, sparkle and all things girl! Meet Kalin.

Fall Family Portraits - Orange County Family Photographer

Looking back on 2010, what will you remember? New milestones for your children? A special anniversary? The loss of a loved one? The joy of a new baby? This time for your family will never come again. Next year the kids will be bigger. They won't fit in that favorite shirt, they won't be in that phase anymore (maybe that's a good thing?) but either way, you'll miss it. Most of the time, I force myself to have a level of professionalism and not kiss and hug the newborns that I have in studio. Little Miss J here is the exception. Her mommy and I go WAY back and her brother and sister were like my children when they were little. So when she arrived for her session, I got to kiss and hug and love on her. And what's funny, is she's got the most expression-filled face for a newborn. She looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe I am. ;)

She can fight sleep like no other, but we finally got her to conk out for a little bit.

She's just perfect and I am in love, just like I am with her brother and sister. Thanks Meg for bringing her for me to cuddle!

As most of you know, I usually save my favorite image for last in the sneak peek, but I can't help myself! I LOVE this image!

Now, if this little roly-poly bundle of cuteness looks familiar, you probably saw him a few months ago here.

And now he's so big, and rockin' the Pink Floyd onesie. Too cool.

and is that a little bit of mischief in his eye? Yup, I think so! So, maybe that one is my favorite! ;)

Of course the "whoo hoo, throw me higher daddy!" shot, is perfection too!

and then there's this sweet little face. Time will fly and before you know it, he'll have a suitcase packed for college.

But nope, really, this is my favorite. Look at those BEAUTIFUL eyes! Melts my heart.

Tell me you do not just want to reach into your computer screen and pinch those chubby little rolls! Seriously, these chubs weren't there a few short months ago, and once he starts crawling they'll be gone.

Well, I almost stole me a baby today. I met this little guy's family a couple of months ago and knew that if he was half as great as they are, I'd fall in love. And I did. Meet Gavin.

This little peanut is so tiny and so sweet, I could have cuddled her all day. Meet sweet Anna.

So, call me crazy, but bringing a Harley into my studio and putting a tiny baby on it sounded like a wonderful idea to me. See...totally worth it! That is one big bike and one little baby! (the motorcycle image is a composite of two separate images. Baby Anna was never left alone on the motorcycle. Daddy had his hands on her the whole time. :)

Ole Blue Eyes - Orange County First Birthday Photographer

Last September I headed out for my first "stranger, in home" session. I was a bit nervous photographing someone I had never met somewhere I'd never been. But, oh about 3 seconds into the shoot, I fell in love with this family. And their adorable son, Grant. You can see that session here.

And now, 8 months later, this family is as wonderful as ever. (and they're expecting another little one! I can't wait!)

During our last session, I got this shot. Still one of my top ten favorite images of all time. Ready, everybody now, "awwww."

So, we thought it would be great to recreate the image now that Grant is one. This is what Grant thought of that idea.

A Carriage and a Cutie - Orange County Flower Fields Photographer

I had envisioned this set-up for a while. The baby carriage was purchased and restored by my parents when I was a baby. It's a real, working, turn of the century carriage that resides in my living room and acts as a jungle gym for my 2-year-old. Once I found the field of purple flowers, I knew this shot would be amazing. Katelyn was the perfect little model for me too! And here is the result. Precious.

Despite the chill in the air, I took my boys out for an "adventure". (We call it that instead of "photoshoot" which makes them run. Photographer's Child Syndrome). Armed with bribery in my pocket, we headed out to the beautiful field I found. It was incredible.

I expected that he had picked these for a very cute little girl in his class, but no, "these are for you Mom!" Soar my heart.

There is something amazingly perfect to me about these. I can see his quiet thoughtful soul.

I love this boy.

Ladybugs were everywhere! I love that you can see the freckle on his palm and his little chewed nails. I love the details.

And then little brother comes into the picture...

With that little mischieveous grin.

Such a character!

and I know I have been blessed twice.

Again, the details draw me in. His little finger that got smashed and lost it's nail. His chubby little thumb. And now, with this picture, I won't ever forget.

Turns out, very little bribery was needed. This field is magical and it was a wonderful adventure.

I have been blessed. And today, and everyday, I am thankful for these blessings. Happy Easter!

I love doing what I do! I get to capture precious moments, I get to cuddle newborn babies like this little princess (without having to be up all night), and I get to meet wonderful people like the Mulay family. Meet Anya.

I usually aim for newborns to come into the studio within the first two weeks of life because they tend to sleep a little better and don't have baby acne yet. Anya was the exception. She slept wonderfully and has flawless skin. How beautiful is she!

I grew up with the Huxtables, the Keatons, and the Hawkins. For those of you who don't know the Hawkins, let me introduce the coolest family ever...

I spent a good deal of my childhood in the Hawkins home and I loved every minute of it (well, maybe minus the metal baseball bat incident) (and the huge busted lip) (and seeing a 4 year old run around with her bathing suit top stuffed with toilet paper) but other than that...lol. I'm so grateful they invited me into their home...come to think of it, they may just not have noticed an extra kid running around.

Either way, when they asked if I'd do family pictures I jumped at the chance to see them all together again.

I have a month full of family sessions coming up, whoo hoo! Almost everyone asks, "What should we wear?" I personally feel that khaki pants and white shirts, or black shirts and jeans for everyone has been overdone. I think that clothing should refect your personality. Wear what makes you happy, what makes you feel good about yourself. Let your tomboy daughter wear her favorite jeans with holes in the knees because when you look back at your images, you'll appreciate who she was at this moment in time even more. That being said, I know that it's still hard to coordinate with out matching. So I'll be posting a "what to wear Wednesday" each week to help you out a bit.

Remember, these are just ideas. Try to pick styles that refect who you are. If you do that, you'll never go wrong!

First of all, I want to thank everyone who comes to visit this little blog of mine and comments on the pictures. Your encouragement means the world to me! Thank you to all of my friends, family and especially my husband for supporting my passion for photography! I am so blessed!

I am also very overwhelmed! My inbox is full of requests for photo shoots. This is wonderful! I am so happy that my photography is to the point that people are asking me to take pictures of them instead of me having to beg, bribe and blackmail people to let me take their pictures! (fyi, there were very few blackmail cases ;) ) However, I can not possibly say yes to everyone at this point. I left a job I loved 3 years ago to stay home and raise my children and that is still my priority.

I do still wish to expand my portfolio, but I am unfortunately going to have to prioritize the session requests.

I am currently looking for...

High school seniors for outdoor senior portraits (park, beach or 'urban' type shots)
Outdoor family shots (preferably with 2 or more children)
Maternity, either outdoor or in the studio

I spent a wonderful afternoon with two of the most charming girls I've ever met. They were animated and fun and energetic, not to mention beautiful! While driving home, I realized that it's sessions like these that made me want to be a photographer in the first place. I want to get to know those I take pictures of. I want to see laughter, joy and genuine expressions. I want to take a break if that's what's needed, without worrying about the next appointment time. I want to hear stories and understand what makes each person unique. I want to be spontaneous. I want everyone to enjoy the session, not just the final images. But, most of all, I want the pictures to show more than what you look like. I want the pictures I take to show what you ARE like.

I had the opportunity to get together with some wonderful photographers through ilovephotography.com. What an amazing experience! First, I got to meet some true artists in the field, plus I got a lot of experience shooting children of all different ages and personalities, and learned a TON!

Thank you to everyone who came and especially to all of our "models". I really appreciate it!

I took my boys out one evening after dinner for some nice pictures. I had wonderful ideas of my two boys together, looking at the camera and smiling. My boys had other ideas. Namely, running in opposite directions and completely ignoring me and my camera. This is the resulting picture. I'll let you decide how much of it was luck...and how much was photoshop!

So when Spencer was quietly drawing with his sidewalk chalk one beautiful evening, I decided to make sure that moment would be something I'd remember. Spencer turned three this month. Sometimes I feel like these years have just slipped by and yet I can't remember my life before him. How is that possible? But there he stands, a boy. Not a baby...a little boy. He is so fun and challenging and smart and funny and curious. These are the things I want to remember...the details. It's why I do what I do. Just grasp at thin threads of this life before more years slip by.

It's for these reasons, and so many more, that I love these pictures.

A beautiful little girl with a beautiful name. So precious and perfect...not to mention completely "girled out." Here she is rockin' the tutu.

She was so tiny and cuddly. Couldn't you just stare at her all day?

If you look closely you'll find that little Miss Catie has been here before. You'll recognize her by her beautiful blue eyes. Back then she was a tiny little thing, now look at her. (BTW, her mommy says she still thinks of her as a little baby. Look at this little miss thang posing like a runway model. Baby, phooey.)
She wasn't so bored with me this time though...I gave her cake!*

For reasons known only to Catie, her foot *needed* to be in the cake. Hey, it's your birthday sweetie, whatever makes you happy!

Little Henry is strong and alert. He wasn't too happy about me moving him around, but after I told him I'd make it up to him when he was old enough to accept bribes for pictures...he forgave me.

This is what they mean by sleep like a baby.

but when he was awake...he was AWAKE! Checkin' out the world.
